ALIA Green is seeking a volunteer Media Coordinator to join a revamped executive team.

Group description

ALIA Green is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of ALIA that provides a forum for people working in all sectors of Australian library and information services to connect to ideas and initiatives that promote the development of sustainable practices. We seek to share information, promote networking opportunities and contribute to the wider GLAMR sector by sharing effective, sustainable practices in libraries in a way that inspires others.

We strive to promote the exchange of knowledge and ideas concerning environmental sustainability and sustainable practices throughout all areas of the library and information sector. Activities are carried out in a collaborative manner, building and strengthening engagement with varied stakeholders across the GLAMR sector. 

Position description   

The Media Coordinator is part of the executive team and will work closely with the Convenor and Secretary and other members of the team as the SIG grows. They will also receive support and guidance from the ALIA office in relation to communications activities where required. Estimated time contribution is approximately 2-3 hours a week.

Duties

  • Help develop and share communications that support the group’s goals (e.g. social media, emails, posts)
  • Contribute ideas and content such as blog posts, podcast interviews, social media updates, and newsletters
  • Support the group’s purpose and values in line with the ALIA Groups Handbook
  • Attend monthly meetings and occasional events when possible
  • Communicate with the team and wider community using agreed channels (e.g. email, Teams, social media)
  • Assist with gathering and sharing information for group projects
  • Bring ideas for collaboration and future activities

Requirements 

  • Current Personal Membership of ALIA
  • Enthusiasm, positivity, empathy and interdisciplinary thinking
  • Media and communications skills (social media, marketing, or communications experience highly desirable)
  • Understanding of how sustainability affects the library and the wider GLAMR sector
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse audience through written outputs and other media
  • Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive team
  • Ability to work effectively and calmly while prioritising and managing tasks on time.
